This Thursday, the whole school celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. In the Chinese section, with the support of Confucius Classroom of Bendigo Senior College(Thank you Mr Lin, Ms Hu, Ms Zhang and Ms Wang), our Camp Hill kids enjoy dumpling making, tasting traditional food and art craft making. Can you imagine that most of our kids have ‘magic hands’ and naturally know how to make beautiful dumplings with different shapes? They have all done a fantastic job on making dumplings.
The dumpling workshops are held in the staff room. Prior to starting the workshop, the Chinese teacher explains to students that ‘making dumplings is considered very good luck. Dumplings signify that wealth and treasure will come to you’. After showing the ingredients of making beef and vegetable dumplings, the teacher demonstrates the technique of making different styles of dumplings such as sun flower and gold fish. All students then have a chance to form and sample finished dumplings. The highlight of the workshop is of course tasting the products of their effort. The juicy dumpling made by our kids definitely taste better than anything mums buy in the supermarket, store or restaurant. They feel like a rock star when they gaze upon the unique dumplings with personal style. The dumpling making activity is fun and satisfying, and it brings so much joy and laughter to our students. Comments are closed.
