This Wednesday (on 11th May) our school has organised a Chinese calligraphy activity. Although it was the first time for Camp Hill Primary School to have a Chinese calligraphy workshop during lunch time, students were excited and showed great interest and enthusiasm to participate.
During the workshop, the teacher first introduced the origin of Chinese characters and the significance of Shufa (Chinese calligraphy) in Chinese cultures, and showing how to properly hold a Chinese brush pen and how to write some basic strokes of Chinese characters. After explanation, the students started to practice writing Chinese characters with Chinese brush pen. All of them were amazed by the “magic paper” (a special cloth paper using only water to write) and the beauty of Chinese calligraphy. At the end of the workshop, they were so proud that they can write Chinese characters with Chinese brush pen. All students had enormous fun in learning about Chinese calligraphy and practicing writing Chinese calligraphy, and this was just the very beginning of our Chinese culture experience workshops. Come and join us next Wednesday.
In term 2, 2016, our schedule for Chinese culture experience workshops is as below:
