News Reported by bendigoweekly.com.au Chinese culture exchange students were welcomed into the Bendigo community with a picnic lunch at Rosalind Park today. Forty-six Suzhou Industrial Park primary school students and seven teachers have arrived in Bendigo as part of Bendigo Senior Secondary College’s Confucius Classroom. Now in its third year, the culture sharing program gives students the opportunity to share their customs. The Chinese culture and Mandarin will be are taught in the BSSC classroom while exposing the international students to the Australian culture. Chinese students will also teach their peers traditional skills including mask painting and calligraphy while the Australian students will share games and songs. Thirteen local primary schools are involved in the program, sharing their culture though Skype sessions, planning reciprocal visits and hosting Chinese students in local family homes. The Chinese students will receive intensive English classes, live with a host family and attend school with their Australian peers throughout the eight week cultural immersion.
